Backing Up Emails

Backing up your emails with Gmail

Do you regularly download emails using POP? If you have you’re own website, or ISP email then you probably do. An amazingly simple trick to allow you to back up every single email you ever receive is by using Gmail’s “Get mail from other accounts” feature. It’s not a heavily publicized feature as it’s buried away in the Settings section, but here’s how to go about taking advantage of it and opening up gigabytes of free email backup.

Firstly, go into Gmail and click on the “Settings” link at the top right corner of the page.

The link to Gmail settings.

Then navigate to the “Accounts” pane.

Scroll down to “Get mail from other accounts“, and click on the “Add another mail account” link.

A window will launch with a wizard to allow you to easily add your POP accounts to your gmail.

And there you have it! Whenever that email address receives an email it’ll be automatically downloaded to your Gmail account. Now you’ll have the ultimate offsite backup of your emails, and also be able to access them if you aren’t able to use an application such as Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird.
